Science lessons at Staines Prep this week revealed nature’s living, breathing wonders to pupils looking into the life-cycle of animals, culminating in the hatching of several beautiful creatures.

Year 1 children at the Gresham Road school were thrilled to see the newly hatched chick whose egg they had been observing for the last three weeks in its incubator, fondly named Rocky.

Year 4 pupils went out into the school’s environmental area to release painted lady butterflies that they had looked after from tiny caterpillars through to chrysalises until their final emergence.

Science teacher Derek Heath said “It has been a great experience for all of us. The care that the children have taken when observing these animals has been delightful to see. In these technological times, it’s great to put things in perspective by looking at what goes on in the natural world.”
